Archibubs x Value Talk 08: Public Space, Play and Possibilities

Deadline:

November 26

Archibubs and the Australian Institute of Architects’ Emerging Architects and Graduates Network (EmAGN) present Value Talk 08: Public Space, Play and Possibilities, a conversation exploring how art, architecture and design can make public spaces more inclusive, engaging and welcoming.

The discussion considers how play can spark curiosity, connect communities and encourage people of different ages, abilities and backgrounds to engage with shared environments. Speakers will discuss the ideas, materials and design processes that make playful public spaces possible.

Speakers include:

  • Tony Albert — Girramay, Yidindji and Kuku Yalanji artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores the representation of Aboriginal people, collective histories and the potential of optimism to overcome adversity. He will discuss his involvement in The Big Hose (2025), an outdoor play sculpture created with artist Nell for QAGOMA.

  • Joel Alcorn and Chloe Middleton — Alcorn Middleton architects presenting the Bradbury Park Playscape, an award-winning project that combines natural elements, timber and engaging play structures to encourage participation by children and adults.

  • Natalia Krysiak — Architect, play consultant and founder of Cities for Play, specialising in learning and play environments and advocating for child-friendly cities.
