Subjective is a collaborative exhibition by Aria Targett and Jude McClay Dwyer, presented at Webb Gallery, Queensland College of Art and Design.
Developed over the course of the exhibition, the project features two large-scale wall paintings generated through a shared set of directives created using artificial intelligence. Drawing inspiration from Sol LeWitt’s proposition that “the idea becomes a machine that makes the art,” the artists work within an identical system while allowing individual interpretation to shape each outcome.
As the wall paintings evolve, Subjective examines the relationship between structured processes and personal expression, revealing how individuality can emerge within frameworks designed for consistency and control. The exhibition reflects on authorship, creative agency and the role of interpretation in contemporary art practice.
A celebration event will be held on 23 July, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the evolving installation and meet the artists.
