UR{BNE} Festival seeks to undertake creative events in public spaces to encourage use of our urban environment.
As part of this year’s festival, they’re holding an open air art market.
Inspired by the art on London’s Bayswater Road and elsewhere, they aim to provide an opportunity for people to display, produce and sell art in the beautiful surroundings of Brisbane’s City Botanical Gardens.
This will be a great opportunity for artists of all ages and abilities to display and sell their works to people who might not normally attend an art gallery. The event will be open to all types of art (painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, etc).
Art @ the Park will display 2D works along the Alice Street frontage of the Botanic Gardens (suitable for two dimensional art) as well as provide space within the Gardens for 3D art such as ceramic, sculpture, craft and other arts.
As this coincides with events associated with the Brisbane Ideas Festival, there will also be other displays and events as well as street food and coffee carts on site for refreshment.
As the UR{BNE} Festival aims to encourage public involvement in public spaces, they are also keen to involve interactive projects, including:
- Artists doing street portraitures and caricatures
- An interactive art project that everyone, especially children, can participate in.
- Conducting art lessons in the park.
Art @ the Park will be on Sunday 21 April, which will coincide with Brisbane City Council’s Ideas Festival.
If you or anyone you know is interested in this, please register your interest at http://artatthepark.eventbrite.com/# and pass this information on. Registration is free!
Artist requirements:
- Please provide a sample of work (2-3 photos) or URL that can be displayed on the event’s website (artatthepark.weebly.com). As this is a public event we expect that art works will be of a generally non-controversial and inoffensive nature.
- You or a representative should be present all day
- Provide your own means of displaying work (easels, tables, etc)
- Provide any protection from rain as desired.
It is hoped that there will be sufficient interest in this event from both artists and the public, and that this will occur on a more regular basis in the future.
