Brisbane Powerhouse has announced the appointment of Louise Bezzina as its new CEO and Artistic Director, commencing in October 2025. Bezzina brings a wealth of experience, having founded the Bleach Festival, co-led the 2018 Commonwealth Games Cultural Program, and served as Artistic Director of Brisbane Festival since 2019. Her tenure at Brisbane Festival has been marked by the commissioning of major works such as Salamander, Bananaland, Trent Dalton’s Love Stories, and the Australian exclusive of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freakshow.
She succeeds Kate Gould, who has led Brisbane Powerhouse through significant expansions, including the introduction of Vertigo, Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema, and events like Night Feast and MELT Festival.
Bezzina expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “Brisbane Powerhouse is an iconic venue that holds a special place in my heart. I look forward to contributing to its next chapter and continuing to shape Brisbane’s vibrant arts scene.”
