The Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) is offering five artist residencies across four streams in 2027, providing mid-career artists with the opportunity to extend their practice through immersive access to ATW’s studio, specialist equipment and expertise.
The five opportunities are:
- Hancock Fellowship: For mid-career textile artists and designers living and working outside Australia. Includes return flights to Melbourne, accommodation and a solo exhibition at ATW.
- First People’s Residency: Open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, with a $2,500 stipend.
- Open Call Residencies: Two opportunities open to artists based in any Australian state or territory.
- Regional Residency: For artists who live and work in regional Australia, with a $2,500 stipend.
All residencies include:
- Dedicated working space in the weaving studio
- Up to $100 AUD of ATW yarn and post-production tapestry materials
- Up to 10 hours of specialist studio support
- Access to textile construction equipment
- Access to ATW’s online tapestry weaving course
- Opportunity to show and sell artwork in one of ATW’s two street-front galleries
ATW also welcomes applications from First Peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse artists, people living in regional and remote areas, and people with disability.
