As one of the oldest extant needlework, Chinese embroidery has a history dating back 2000 years. It is well-known for its refinement, clearly demarcated lines, elegant colours, variety of stitches and consummate artistry.
This November learn from renowned Chinese embroidery artist Jenny Gao as she provides hands on introduction to the art of embroidery.
Situated in our beautiful Dome Lounge participants will learn the skills of needlework and thread matching before embarking on the creation of a small pattern designed for beginners by Jenny Gao.
In this rare workshop, each participant will begin to create their own piece of embroidery and will be able to continue their project at home.
Note: Workshop will be in a mixture of Mandarin and English. English interpreters will be available to help with translations.
Workshop is limited to 20 participants; workshop duration is 2 hours plus a 15 minute break.
Ticket price includes embroidery pattern, material and embroidery thread. Students will need to bring a 15cm embroidery hoop and scissors to the workshop, alternatively these can be purchased online additional items. Extra thread can be purchased in cash at the workshop for $1.50 per bundle.
Participants who wish to extend their experience can stay for a bi-lingual tour of our newest exhibition Ink Remix: Contemporary art from Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong led by curator, Sophie McIntyre accompanied by Mandarin interpreter. For more information click here.
