New School of the Living and the Dead is an exhibition of new works by Brisbane-based artist Bill Platz.

The exhibition draws on the discovery of the famous Riace Warriors — Classical Greek bronze sculptures found on the Mediterranean seabed in 1972. While two of these sculptures are now celebrated museum pieces in Calabria, Platz imagines an alternative history in which a third sculpture — the yawning warrior — was secretly removed from Italy and eventually discarded in the shallow waters of Deception Bay.

Through drawing-based works and mixed media surfaces, Platz constructs a fictional narrative that blends archaeology, mythology and local geography. The exhibition explores ideas of cultural heritage, displacement and imagined histories, presenting an alternative story that connects the ancient Mediterranean world with Moreton Bay.

This exhibition has been developed by City of Moreton Bay in collaboration with the artist.

Free entry. All ages welcome.
