One of Asia-Pacific’s leading contemporary art galleries, Sullivan+Strumpf is excited to announce Brisbane Brief – a new pop-up exhibition at Festival House in Fortitude Valley.
Showing over 10 days, Brisbane Brief presents a selection of new and recent works by celebrated Brisbane artists Tony Albert, Karen Black and Lindy Lee, as well as some of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, including Gregory Hodge, Alex Seton, Joanna Lamb, Gonkar Gyatso, Eko Nugroho, eX de Medici, Hiromi Tango, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, Glenn Barkley, Sam Leach and Dane Lovett.
Brisbane Brief is Tony Albert’s first showing since his exhibition at Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art, Visible, in 2018, and will include recent works from his Wonderlandexhibition in Sydney (May 2019).
Having just returned from the Glasshouse Stonehouse Arts Residency in France, Karen Black is showing new works, exhibited for the first time at Brisbane Brief.
The exhibition will also feature works by Brisbane born and raised Lindy Lee, who is currently showing at the Brisbane Art and Design exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane.
Brisbane Brief is the second pop-up exhibition in the city for Sullivan+Strumpf, founders and directors, Joanna Strumpf and Ursula Sullivan, who are originally from Brisbane and are delighted to bring the gallery’s artists’ works to Queensland.
“We both studied art in Brisbane, so this city is an extra special place for us. It is with enormous pride that we return to our hometown to share the work of some great artists who hail from Brisbane, as well as some outstanding works from other artists we represent from around Australia,” said Joanna Strumpf.
The exhibition features a new work by Tony Albert, who was commissioned by a private Brisbane collector to embellish a vintage pinball machine. Albert is well known for re-contextualising found objects in his works. This interactive and playful pinball machine has been redesigned and decorated with Albert’s paintings and ideas from his collection,Aboriginalia. Visitors are invited to play with the pinball machine at the exhibition.
