Bronwyn Hill

Deadline:

Lethbridge Gallery

Bronwyn Hill is known for her photorealistic oil paintings, using a contrast of high detail and soft layering techniques. Completing her Diploma of Fine Arts in 2011, Hill has since been involved in many exhibitions across Australia including the finalists showcase for the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award and the Portia Geach Memorial Award. Bronwyn won the 2017 Clayton Utz Art Award.

Bronwyn’s new collection of oil paintings is inspired by the current restrictions and anxieties being experienced by so many in 2020.

“‘Spring Break’ is a collection of work that looks to take a pause on heavy issues and draw attention to the simple beauty of nature and our disconnect from it.
The interplay of sheets and insects has been of interest to me for a while, in particular the unrest the two subjects have when placed together. Sheets represent comfort, rest and intimacy, and insects while appreciated in their own environment are not seen as welcome in a place so personal to us as our beds.

The figures in these works, while appearing stressed or fatigued are adorned with butterflies and light, little reminders that seasons do change.”
