WHEN : 4th – 16th Oct
WHERE : White Canvas Gallery

Artist, Kelli McGregor, has taken a poignant chapter in Queensland’s cane history to the city. Her ‘Brown Sugar’ Series will be unveiled for the first time at Brisbane’s White Canvas Gallery on October 5.

35 significant paintings and prints form the ‘Brown Sugar’ series and have resulted from a lot of soul-searching over the last few years for the artist in relation to her newfound landscape – first on the Sunshine Coast where she relocated after 30 years in the Top End and 18 months ago to the Fraser Coast hinterland.

Taking up an artist’s residency in Palmwoods in 2010, Kelli decided the coast environment was her inspiration, the place she needed to be and she moved onto Eumundi, then Maryborough. The result is a major solo exhibition, which reflects the artist’s approach to a poignant chapter in Queensland’s history or, as McGregor calls it, “My personal reparation for the past”.
