Bruce Reynolds: How Soon Is Now?

Deadline:

May 2
Redcliffe Art Gallery

How Soon Is Now? brings together a selection of Bruce Reynolds’ cast relief works alongside painterly collaged linoleum pieces that explore the physical qualities of materials and making.

The exhibition highlights a strong sense of materiality and craftsmanship, celebrating the tactile presence of artworks in contrast to today’s increasingly digital environment. Reynolds’ works reference antiquity, migration, memory and time, as well as connections between the natural and built environment.

Reynolds’ practice has evolved from collage into relief and sculptural forms over several decades. Artist residencies in Rome informed the development of relief works that exist between painting and sculpture, and between drawing and architecture — a space the artist describes as both archaic and contemporary.

How Soon Is Now? is a Museums & Galleries Queensland touring exhibition presented in partnership with the artist. The project is supported by the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program and Arts Queensland.
