DEADLINE : 7th Feb, 2013
Double Whammy showcases works that pack a double punch. The artists exhibiting with Platform72 as part of Art Month Sydney critique cultural orthodoxies and challenge us to reconsider the relationship between politics and aesthetics.
In a cultural landscape where the political is aestheticised and the aesthetic is politicised – from the iPhones of Syria to Shepard Fairey t-shirts – we increasingly play fast and loose with the visual codes that help define the world around us. In 2013, how do we differentiate the seduction of politics from the politics of seduction?
Platform72 wants you to take control and subvert the subversive.
Submissions are invited for works in any medium – regardless of theme – that contribute to contemporary cultural criticism. We are interested in artists whose critique of the state of things addresses both an issue and its representation.
