DEADLINE : 10th Jan, 2014
St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane (SVPHB) is embarking on a new Arts Program that enhances our hospital environment to support the spiritual, emotional and physical health and well-being of patients, family members and staff. As part of our program we will transform our environment by installing vibrant exhibitions of high-quality art works by local artists across the hospital.
The theme for 2014 is ‘Outside In’ and we arecalling for artists to submit proposals.
‘Outside In’aims to provide patients with a connection from the hospital to the outside world. Art works are expected to engender encounters withpeople, places and experiences beyond the hospital itself, offering opportunities for reflection and contemplation, engaging memory and recognition, inspiration and motivation.
Exhibitions will be held in the main foyer and wards across the hospital. The number of works in each artist’s exhibition will be tailored to the space available and the patients residing in the allocated space. Artists are required to provide art work which is ready to hang.
We anticipate each artist’s exhibition to be shown in the hospital for approximately 12 weeks.
Artwork applications :
We are accepting applications from 2D visual artists in the mediums of painting, illustration, textiles, printmaking, photography or mixed media. Exhibited art works will be loaned to the hospital for the exhibition period and no charge will be made to exhibiting artists.
We welcome exhibition proposals from artists residing in South East Queensland including our own employees. Proposals must include:
- electronic versions of up to eight images of your work, preferably in a PowerPoint presentation using your name as the filename
- one page CV, including your contact details
- artist statement (maximum 200 words)
- exhibition proposal including how your work fits with the exhibition theme, subject content, materials, preferred time of year and any technical requirements (maximum 500 words).
A unique opportunity
The 2014 exhibition series presents unique potential for artists. Art work will be seen by a wide community demographic. Patients from as young as 14 come from allaround Queensland and interstate to access our general medical, chronic disease, geriatric, neurosciences, pain management, rehabilitation and palliative care services.
The opportunity exists for art works to significantly impact the patient, family and staff experience at the hospital, whether they be one-off observations of work or repeated viewings that build familiarity with an artist’s work.
The hospital will encourage sale or commission of work asking for a 20 percent donation from any successful transaction created through the hospital exhibition.
Timeframes
Deadline for submissions is10 January 2014. Selection of exhibitions will be made by a selection committee using criteria of:
- fit with the 2014 exhibition series theme
- fit with the vision of the Arts Program and our Mission
- appropriateness of exhibition within the available space
- potential for art works to evoke positive outcomes for patients, visiting families and staff.
