Camille Hannah: Peep Show

Deadline:

Edwina Corlette Gallery

Harnessing the contemporary aesthetic of mediated visuality, Camille Hannah’s paintings are contextualized by their status as a non-photographic image in a world dominated by the screen, traversing the paradox between the prohibition of touch in relation to digital technology and art. These illusory paintings encapsulated within shallow domes of convex Perspex, aim to tantalise and distance the viewer at that ‘push me pull you’ threshold of vision and touch.

Camille Hannah attained a Masters of Fine Art by research in 2013 and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in 2010, at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2012 she won the Kozica-O’Callaghan Award for Painting and in 2011 was the recipient of an Australian Postgraduate Scholarship Award. She is the recipient of numerous other awards, including the Pleysier Perkins Exploration 11 Award, Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne, the Tania Brougham Award (2010), the Myer Foundation Award (2010), Fiona Myer Award (2010), Felicity and Stuart Carter Award (2010), the National Gallery Women’s Association Undergraduate Encouragement Award (2009), and ‘Proud’, VCA Margaret Lawrence Gallery, Digital Artwork Prize.
