In Dissembling Assembly, Chris Hagen reflects on how we come to understand the world — and how knowledge is shaped as much by lived experience as by information. The works occupy the space between knowing and not knowing, where meaning forms gradually, layered over time and never entirely fixed.
Raised in northern Wisconsin by a biologist and a journalist, Hagen grew up between two distinct modes of inquiry: observation and storytelling. That tension continues to inform his practice. Structure and uncertainty coexist in these works, allowing order to emerge while preserving room for doubt, intuition and revision.
Across the series, what is visible is only part of the narrative. Some elements assert themselves immediately; others remain subtle, requiring patience and sustained attention. Together, the works mirror how we absorb, interpret and continually revise information. This is an exhibition that rewards slowing down and allowing meaning to unfold rather than arrive fully formed.
PARKER Contemporary and the artist have committed to donating 10% of proceeds from the exhibition in support of humanitarian aid.
