Compelled by colour: In conversation with Gemma Smith

17th August, 2:00 - 3:00pm

QUT Art Museum

“Perceiving colour is like exercising a muscle that is enhanced by use. I feel that one can become attuned to perceiving colour in a more nuanced way.” Gemma Smith

Join artist Gemma Smith and exhibition curator, Director of UNSW Galleries, José Da Silva, for a conversation about Smith’s art practice and survey exhibition ‘Gemma Smith: Rhythm sequence’.

Interested in the dialogues and interactions between colours, Smith employs a rigorous and playful approach to her abstract paintings and sculptures, continually challenging the possibilities of colour, space and form. As Smith’s first major career survey, the exhibition traces the development of her practice since 2003.
