About the workshop

Get crafty in this introductory paper cutting workshop with Brisbane-based artist, Elysha Rei. Elysha will introduce the history of this intricate international folk artform and how it has emerged in the contemporary art scene. Elysha will also teach you all the essential design and paper cutting techniques you need to know you create your own paper cut artwork!

This is an adult workshop and is suitable for ages 13+.

  • All tools, materials and safety equipment you need to create your own paper cut artwork
  • Take home your own paper cut artwork created during the workshop
  • Take-home paper cutting workbook
  • Snacks and tea, coffee and juice!

About Elysha

Elysha Rei is a Japanese-Australian visual artist who reflects upon her mixed heritage to explore ideas of transition, migration and cross-cultural connections. Drawing on her Japanese heritage, Elysha uses traditional paper cutting techniques to create both small and large-scale artworks. Since completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Southern Queensland in 2008, Elysha has exhibited around the world, including the US, New Zealand, Thailand and Australia. She has also been invited to create work for a number of public art installations, including ‘Weaving Our Heritage’ at the 2016 BrisAsia Festival (Eagle Lane, 2016), UnFramed (Coolum, 2015), and Brisbane City Council’s Vibrant Laneways program (King George Sqaure, 2016).
