The Mayor and Councillors of Moreton Bay Regional Council have the pleasure of inviting you and your family to view Creative Power: The Art of George Baldessin. This exhibition is curated by Tess Edwards Baldessin, the artist’s widow and is toured by Maitland Regional Art Gallery. It is supported by Visions of Australia, an Australian Government program supporting touring exhibitions by providing funding assistance for the development and touring of Australia cultural material across Australia.

 

George Baldessin is an important figure in the history of Australian Art, most notably in the fields of sculpture and printmaking, and was an integral part of the thriving Melbourne art scene of the 1970s. A charismatic figure, he died in a tragic car accident in 1978, at the age of 39.

The public are invited to attend a finale event with special guest, curator and artist’s widow Tess Edwards Balessin who will speak about George’s life and art and the creation of the Baldessin Press. Impress Printmakers studio and gallery, Brisbane will also speak about the opportunities for lovers of prints and printmakers locally.
