Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts (Umbrella) and James Cook University (JCU) have partnered to support one contemporary Australian visual artist with accommodation, a $2,500 artist fee and a travel fee for a one-month residency at JCU’s Special Collections at the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library and The Studio at Umbrella. Research themes for the residency could include place, migration, colonies, missions, labour, the reef/ocean, water, pearling and sugar cane production. Applicants may indicate their preferred timeframe of the residency within August, September, October or November 2023. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
