Leading Australian artist Danie Mellor will present a new solo exhibition, A sensual instinct, at Jan Murphy Gallery.
Danie Mellor’s work explores themes that are critically linked to cultural histories and concepts of the landscape. His award winning work is shown internationally and within Australia, and is held in the permanent collections of major institutions and private collections. He is currently included in QAGOMA’s Asia Pacific Triennial (APT8) and will soon be in the 2016 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, opening in late February 2016.
A sensual instinct is a collection of 13 new photographic works that explore the visceral sensuality of landscape and nature. Imagery of natural decay and growth, mortality and cycles of life suggest an ecology that both consumes and births itself. Featuring Mellor’s signature blue and white, these photographs seduce the viewer. One is reminded of the spectacle of a primordial urge; the allure of life and death unfolding.
