Denis Piel: Down To Earth

Deadline:

Maud Creative

From a small one man studio in George Street’s Sutton House in 1966, to the world’s most glamorous heights of New York Vogue and Vanity Fair spreads in the seventies and eighties, to directing Clio award-winning TV commercials for brands such as Donna Karan and Guerlain in the nineties, to bucolic life in his family’s French chateau today, Denis Piel is a photographer with a big life story to tell.

As well as a considerable body of published work, Denis has exhibited in major European and American galleries, and his prints are held by The Victoria and Albert Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Art, and other prestigious public collections.

Now the circle of life brings Denis home for his first nostalgic visit to Brisbane in half a century – a private visit which will be celebrated by a public showing of his work in a “One Picture” exhibition at The Maud Street Photo Gallery in Newstead.

Maud is proud to present a key image from “Down To Earth,” the most recent Denis Piel exhibition at Phillips, London, and a limited edition book of the same name. Photographed over a full agricultural cycle in the farmlands of the Piel family’s Château de Padiès, principally on a Hasselblad H4D, a copy of the book will also be on display.

You are invited to the opening of this strictly limited exhibition from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday 8 November at The Maud Street Photo Gallery, 6 Maud Street Newstead. RSVP essential. The exhibition will be open to public from November 9-13, 1pm – 6pm. Free entry.

Denis will also address a Q&A session at the gallery before the opening, from 5pm. Entry for this will be $20 per person, (+fees and GST) with entry only available by prior booking.
