Mitchell Fine Art launches its 2017 exhibition calendar with the annual group exhibition ‘Director’s Choice’. Curated from the gallery collection, Director Mike Mitchell has carefully selected artworks from various artists, showcasing some of the galleries finest works.
Comprised primarily of artworks by represented artists, the exhibition includes new paintings from two artists added to the gallery’s stable in 2016 – David Hayes and Joel Rea.
David Hayes is a Brisbane based emerging artist whose works are stylistically grounded in pop culture as he explores the changing definitions of masculinity after being raised in a post WWII traditional culture. Hayes is an exciting new talent whose accolades include selection as a finalist in the Redlands Art Prize, the Blake Prize and the Black Swan Art Prize.
Joel Rea returns to the Brisbane art scene after many years and numerous successful exhibitions around the world. Rea is a contemporary surrealist painter who creates imagined scenarios that represent and deal with the issues of the present.
Artists featured: Min-Woo Bang, Geoff Todd, George Gittoes and Jeff Makin and Indigenous artists Angelina George, Minnie Pwerle, Gloria Petyarre and Kathleen Petyarre.
The exhibition is showing at Mitchell Fine Art, 86 Arthur Street Fortitude Valley from 8th February to 4th March 2017.
The gallery is open 6 days a week from Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm and Saturday 10am until 5pm, with onsite parking available
