Mitchell Fine Art

Mitchell Fine Art begins its 2020 gallery exhibition calendar year with the personally curated exhibition ‘Director’s Choice’.

Gallery Director Mike Mitchell has selected artworks from the galleries collection featuring a mix of Australian contemporary and Aboriginal art.

The exhibition showcases the gallery’s diverse stockroom and highlights artists that will be exhibited in 2020.

There are artworks by newly invited artists Idris Murphy and Matthew Cheyne. Idris Murphy is one of Australia’s leading contemporary landscape painters and Matthew Cheyne is a wonderful emerging Queensland artist.

Paintings shortlisted for notable art prizes including the Tattersall’s Art Prize and the Brisbane Portrait Prize also feature in this opening exhibition. Peter Hudson’s eye catching painting ‘The Passage’ and Steve Lopes portrait of Warren Ellis are two standout selections.

This exhibition features some of the finest examples of the work of Carlos Barrios, Dorothy Napangardi, Gertie Huddleston, Kudditji Kngwarreye, Steve Lopes and Makinti Napanangka amongst others.

The exhibition is showing at Mitchell Fine Art, 86 Arthur Street Fortitude Valley
