THERE THEN HERE NOW by Peter Kennedy presents work across five decades of practice. The earliest work, Snare, was first presented at the Sydney conceptual artspace Inhibodress in 1972 and can be considered one of the first examples of sound installation in Australian art. In Gallery One sculptures from Kennedy’s 1993 exhibition ‘Chrous for the Breath of Wings’ at Heide Art Museum will be exhibited alongside recently completed monumental drawings from the same period of work. Lastly, in Gallery Two, Kennedy will present his recent six channel video installation The Photographs’ Story. Although they were made decades apart, the three bodies of work are linked by the presence of percussion both formally and physically. Each engages with radical breaks with the past, exemplifying Kennedy’s philosophical consistency over five decades of practice.
In Carpark we present Exiguous plains by Lauren Burrow, an exhibition of new sculptures bringing together seemingly disparate realms of production. The exhibition examines the artistry of industry from vehicles to manicures, as part of an ongoing body of work inverting ‘social sculpture’ to the intimate scale of the individual. Intentionally vague, and concerned with pleasure, the sculptures focus on applications of ‘shine’, figuring excess as both substance and structure.
