Exhibition Opening: Dark Nuance – Kitty Horton / Natalie Lavelle

Presenting ‘DARK NUANCE’ – dual solo exhibitions by Kitty Horton and Natalie Lavelle, each showing new work within the bounds of black and white.

OCHRE GALLERY – Brisbane based artist Kitty Horton explores the materiality of her surroundings using a combination of oils, mixed media and drawing.  Horton is inspired by the American Minimalists, and absorbs and reflects on her surroundings through the practice of creating distorted shapes, forms and motifs. Mark making and the serendipitous accident extend the relationship between painting and drawing.

COBALT GALLERY – Natalie Lavelle‘s work shifts between human and material concerns, as abstract and monochromatic compositions become the foundation of a personal pursuit to re-blur the limitations and the boundaries of the traditional easel painting. In Dark Nuance, Lavelle coaxes these elements together by simultaneously investigating the material agencies of painting and the body, giving equal weight to the human act of ‘making’ and the physical imperatives of materials.
