Join artists Luke Roberts and Callum McGrath for an intergenerational discussion on video art practice, and its importance in documenting the queer experience in Queensland from the Bjelke-Petersen era to today.
About the Speakers:
Luke Roberts’s five-decade-long practice uses photography, video, painting and performance to respectfully parody the status quo. His work combines religion and ritual, kitsch and classicism, sexuality and the supernatural to investigate the possibility of accepted wisdoms being wrong.
Callum McGrath’s cross-genre practice reimagines institutional archives and historiographies to record the complexity of queer cultural inheritance. Referencing the aesthetics of cinema and public memorials, his practice reconceives the past to prioritise queer love, loss and desire over existing hegemonies.
