Panel Discussion and Screening: Landscape and CGI

November 14, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In conjunction with an exhibition at local artist-run initiative Kuiper Projects—’Topographic Resolutions II’—the IMA and Kuiper present a panel discussion and screening that considers the relationship between landscape and computer-generated imagery, both in contemporary art and wider culture.

Join a conversation between curator Kyle Weise and artists Baden Pailthorpe and Kathryn-Brimblecombe-Fox who will discuss their relationships to digital depictions of landscape and its entanglement with militarism, a theme also found across the late filmmaker Harun Farocki’s practice.

After the discussion see a screening of one of Farocki’s final films, ‘Parallel I-IV’ (2012-14, 45 mins). The film incorporates found footage including that from video games ‘The Legend of Zelda’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ to comment on the genre of computer animation and the history of style in computer graphics.

This program is an extension of the group exhibition, ‘Topographic Resolutions II’ on display at Kuiper Projects 15–30 November. The exhibition includes moving image work by Corinna Berndt, Trent Crawford, Tristan Jalleh, and Sara Ludy.
