Talking Ideas: 2019 Narelle Oliver Lecture with Bruce Pascoe
May 24, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join Bruce Pascoe (Dark Emu) as he delivers this year’s Narelle Oliver Lecture acknowledging the International Year of Indigenous Languages and encouraging us to teach children the truth about Australia’s history.
Pascoe is a long-time student and teacher of Wathaurong language and has worked extensively on the resurrection of the Yuin language understanding that culture is embedded in language.
Pascoe has published more than 20 adult and children’s titles, including Ocean, Convincing Ground: Learning to Fall in Love with Your Country, Fog a Dox, and Dark Emu.
Pascoe won the 2016 Book of the Year NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for Dark Emu and was co-winner of the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards Indigenous Writer’s Prize. Dark Emu was also shortlisted for the Queensland Literary Awards and the Victorian Premier’s Award for Indigenous Writing. Fog a Dox won the 2013 Prime Ministers Literary Award for YA Fiction.
