Walking tour: the art of Gemma Smith
October 25, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Join us on a walking tour along George Street to explore significant public artworks by Gemma Smith and the paintings that inspired them.
The afternoon begins at QUT Art Museum with a tour of ‘Gemma Smith: Rhythm sequence’. Next stop is the lift lobby of 400 George street to find public artworks ‘The Chessboard Paintings #14’ and ‘#15’, 2009.
The tour culminates across the road at the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Courts of Law, which house Smith’s large-scale painting, ‘Collision and Improvisation (ceiling)’, 2012. Hear about the process behind this complex and captivating artwork based on the painting ‘The wheel has turned one full circle’, 2008, currently showing at QUT Art Museum, and gain insights into Smith’s practice as you enjoy wandering through Brisbane City.
Please be advised that at the QEII Courts of Law you will be required to go through standard screening processes for security.
We recommend you wear comfortable shoes, hat and sunscreen as we will be walking outdoors for about 30 minutes, as well as water and a keen eye for a selfie!
This is a free event, registrations via Eventbrite.
