FireWorks Gallery presents Evidence of Scale V and From the air, two concurrent exhibitions that explore scale, material, and perspective through sculpture, drawing, and painting.

Evidence of Scale V, the gallery’s annual showcase of sculpture and works on paper, features Rod Moss, Phil Gordon, Christopher Hodges, Jennifer Herd, Paul Bong, Daryl Hewson, and Walala Tjapaltjarri & Michael Eather. Upstairs, the exhibition includes ten new fine art reproductions of Rod Moss’ meticulous graphite drawings—many depicting Central Australian landscapes shaped by over forty years living in Alice Springs.

Highlights include Christopher Hodges’ sculptural work Sentry, which transforms drawn lines into form, and Daryl Hewson’s bronze Go Forth, a meditation on independence and human renewal. A new collaborative series by Walala Tjapaltjarri & Michael Eather, Tingari Play, combines Tjapaltjarri’s iconic Tingari motifs with Eather’s vibrant striped backgrounds, creating compositions that merge colour and cultural storytelling.

Downstairs, From the air brings together landscape and aerial perspectives by Kathleen Kngale, Abie Loy, George Hairbrush Tjungurrayi, Lydia Balbal, and Alick Sweet, all situated beneath Stephen Hart’s suspended four-metre sculpture of a Catalina aircraft. The installation suggests a flight path across Australia’s diverse terrains—from desert to coast—connecting the physical and mythological landscapes that define the continent.

Director Michael Eather notes, “There is a terrific interplay of 2D and 3D, large and small, Aboriginal and non-Indigenous, throughout the gallery, making for exciting and interactive exhibitions.”

Opening Event: Saturday 8 November, FireWorks Gallery
