Deadline:

Outer Space

Gallery One: Brigit Ryan ‘Holding it together’

The forms in this exhibition are not finished objects; they are seemingly fragmented from a larger structure, waiting to assist in the construction of an architectural site, or to slot together to make a mould. Scaffolding, a cast wax fence and plaster moulds are presented as though in progress – held up and together with provisional wires, ties and spindly supports.

These objects are all peripheral to something central – a building; a solid form. They are both a part of and apart from this form. Holding it together prompts a consideration of the discourse between objects and bodies in space, and the connections between things. These structures never exist alone; they are always in relation to one another, providing support in the construction of a something larger than themselves.

Gallery Two: Anna Litwinowicz ‘TRAVERSE’

TRAVERSE is a three-channel video projection depicting a journey through an array of distorted natural landscapes accompanied by ethereal sounds. Together they grow into a haunting experience leading into a climax of nothingness; a reflection of Anna’s ambivalent feelings towards her existence. This sublime experience is meditative yet menacing evoking a space for contemplation.

The imagery of the environment reflects Anna’s subjective experience of the diverse alpine environment in the Leeawuleena (Lake St Clair) National Park where she spent three weeks undertaking an artist residency during Winter this year. Permission to film was granted by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. The artist would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Leeawuleena (Lake St Clair) National Park where this project was created.
