Join artist Rebecca McIntosh (Bec Mac) for Flying Fox Woman – Artist, Author Talk and Mask Making Workshop, an interactive creative experience presented by artisan at The Parlour, State Library of Queensland.
Part of McIntosh’s ongoing Flying Fox Woman participatory art project, the workshop invites participants to create their own mythological guardian mask while exploring themes of identity, empowerment and collective creativity.
The day begins with an artist talk by McIntosh reflecting on her three-decade creative practice and the development of the Flying Fox Woman project. Dr Laini Burton, author of Masked, will introduce the cultural and political significance of masks in contemporary society before Brisbane artist Kimi Schieren guides participants through the design and creation of their own unique guardian mask and alter ego.
Open to all ages and skill levels, the workshop encourages participants to contribute to the growing Flying Fox Woman movement through hands-on making, storytelling and community connection.
