Gertrude Studio Program 2027

Deadline:

Deadline: October 26

Gertrude is accepting applications from contemporary artists working across any medium for its two-year Studio Program.

The program provides highly subsidised individual studio spaces at Gertrude Contemporary in Preston South, Melbourne, alongside shared communal spaces and workshop facilities. Sixteen studios are available, with eight new artists invited into the program each year. Studios become available progressively throughout the year.

Artists can work across practices including sculpture, painting, performance, installation, photography, video, drawing, contemporary dance and experimental practices.

The program includes:

  • Individual studio space
  • Access to shared workshops and communal facilities
  • A funded solo exhibition at Gertrude Glasshouse, including artist fees and a production budget
  • Participation in the annual Gertrude Studios group exhibition, with an artist fee
  • Curatorial, installation, marketing and documentation support
  • Studio visits with Australian and international curators and museum directors
  • Remunerated public and education program opportunities

Studios are approximately 32m², individually lockable and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The standard studio fee is $300 per month including GST, plus a refundable $300 bond. A fully subsidised studio is also available specifically for a First Nations artist.

Applicants must provide a completed application, a CV of no more than two pages and visual support material of no more than 10 pages. Up to three video/audio URLs may also be submitted, with each limited to three minutes.

Previous Gertrude Studio participants and artists currently or intending to study during the residency period are ineligible, with the study restriction not applying to the dedicated First Nations studio opportunity.
