Volatile Terrain is an exhibition that explores the intersections and divergences of geography and geology, with consideration to a world in constant flux. The exhibition provides an opportunity to examine how humanity lives on Earth, as well as interacts, destructs and rehabilitates it.

Featuring work by Bonita Ely, Cassandra Hodgins, Dylan Sarra, Jim Filmer, Judy Watson, Kate Geck, Marian Drew, Megan Cope & Keg De Souza, Naomi McKenzie, Prita Tina Yeganeh, Sandi Hook and Shirley Gregor. Curated by Cara-Ann Simpson.

Harvest Biennial is an exhibition that occurs every two-years, devoted to themes of the environment and place.

The exhibition is hyper-local and responsive to the Somerset region, with the project underpinned by substantial local artist development opportunities and an extensive community engagement program. The local artists participating in the 2025 iteration, Volatile Terrain, are Cassandra Hodgins, Jim Filmer, Naomi McKenzie, Sandi Hook and Shirley Gregor.

The biennial is guest curated, with the selected curator rotating each iteration. In 2025, the guest curator is Cara-Ann Simpson. As part of the project, Cara-Ann has undertaken research connected to the exhibition’s themes, while also hosting curatorial discussions with selected Somerset artists, who have made new work for the exhibition. In addition, a complement of artists from across Australia have been selected for inclusion, including acclaimed artists Bonita Ely, Dylan Sarra, Judy Watson, Kate Geck, Marian Drew, Megan Cope & Keg De Souza, and Prita Tina Yeganeh.

Harvest Biennial includes a suite of programs including artist talks, workshops and activities that extend and enhance the artworks, led by artists featured in the exhibition.
