Since 1998, China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA) has launched a call to photographers all over the world to document folklore phenomenon extensively and in depth. To this end, CFPA founded Humanity Photo Awards, a biennial international photographic contest. This event is blessed with UNESCO’s support and is granted with UNESCO’s logo since the 2nd HPA in 2000.
For the past 16 years, photographers from 158 countries have participated in HPA, who successfully accumulated images about cultural phenomena of 168 countries. This is a mass stock of photos on multi-culture.
As Mr. Hans d’ Orville, Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning UNESCO said in the preface of Memories of the Mankind IV, “The Humanity Photo Awards represents an undertaking that aims a more profound mutual understanding and interaction across cultural, geographical and political frontiers. HPA allows us to reflect on human activities by people in all continents and involving all age groups, HPA will allow us to get to know each other better, and above all HPA highlights and advocates strongly the value of our common humanity in diversity.”
We call upon responsible photographers who respect and love life to take their cameras, in the form of feature photography:
– to explore and rescue the endangered folk cultures of nationalities worldwide;
– to record the changes and evolution of various folk cultures in a genuine, vivid and profound way;
– to record, spread and share the multi-cultures of the world with the aim of enhancing mutual understanding and exchanges of human beings and promoting the world peace and development.
– to contribute to the World Folklore Photo Museum with world culture records.
