Join the launch of IMA Belltower at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, a new program dedicated to Queensland contemporary art.
The first exhibition in the new gallery space is a solo show by Brisbane-based artist and palawa woman, Mandy Quadrio. The Country Within presents a series of large-scale sculptures using a natural material rich with spiritual and cultural meaning: Tasmanian bull-kelp.
Outside, projected on the façade of the building, see a new temporary public artwork by Sebastian Moody, developed in collaboration with designer Sai Karlen. Somewhere between a list and poem, Seeing is comprised entirely of six letter words intended to create moments of contemplation on Brunswick Street.
IMA Belltower will present five exhibitions over the twelve-month program, as well as moving-image artworks projected on the building’s façade. The program, dedicated to Queensland art exploring the meaning of place, is curated by Freja Carmichael.
Launch Date: 22nd June, 4:30 – 8:00pm
