IMA Open Day is back in 2021 with a full day of talks, exhibition tours, kids workshops, and pop-up artist markets. Then we’re turning down the lights for an up-late event curated by LIZANDBETTY.
From 9am hunt down the perfect holiday gift with bespoke items from your favourite Brisbane makers: David Spooner, Bianca Mavrick, Sada Sata, Kaomoji, Theresa Darmody, Tom Summers, and more. We’re also teaming up with the Valley Laneway Markets to bring you offerings from our Valley neighbours Alice Nightingale and Jess Blak.
To celebrate the Australian premiere of Vietnamese artist, Thao Nguyen Phan’s work at the IMA, Brisbane’s Vietnamese-dining icon Café O’Mai will run a cooking class, and academics Kaya Barry and Samid Suliman will deliver an expanded talk titled ‘A tour around the mudflats’.
Plus join guided tours throughout the afternoon of our current exhibitions: ‘See/Through’, ‘Becoming Alluvium’, and ‘the churchie’.
As the sun sets enjoy drinks in the courtyard and sounds from Meanjin’s freshest DJ’s Toby Nichols, Romi in da house, and crush3d in a party night curated by LIZANDBETTY, a proudly POC and female-run operation by Wayan Preston and ‘the churchie’ finalist Vissy Hoffie.
