Impossible Spaces / Liam O'Brien

27th Aug- 15th Sep

WHEN : 27th Aug- 15th Sep
WHERE : Metro Arts, Studio 3.5

This exhibition finds Liam O’Brien in the midst of a rigorous re-evaluation of his artistic practice, attempting to (re-)locate his work in the realms of the political, the social and the personal. Through the increased experimentation involved in this process, the work Liam creates for this exhibition has the potential for being highly transitionary, whilst also being invaluable to the development of his practice.

Since graduating with Honours in Photographic Art Practice from the Queensland College of Art (Griffith University) in 2010, Liam O’Brien has begun forging a predominantly performative practice, expressed either in front of a live audience or through the production of photographic or video works. Primarily through the use of simplicity, repetition and self-flaggelation, O’Brien attempts to explore themes surrounding personal freedom and the socio-economic structures that impede it.
