King is a documentary style photographer who has exhibited nationally and internationally (notably BoxFresh in Sydney / London), in galleries, cafes, warehouses and even an old shed. Her commercial portraits (for the likes of Yen Magazine) and client portraits are obvious – they show faces, moments, give context.
‘In Hiding’ explores the important other side to King’s work with a series of obscured portraits. Whereas in her commercial work the information is clearly given to the viewer, nothing is revealed in the face – which is where we typically look to search for information. The viewer is left to put together clues based on stance and environment to figure out snippets about these people and what stories they tell.
