In conjunction with Brisbane Artist Run Initiaive (BARI) Festival and Arts Queensland, In Residence presents Home 2.
In Queensland, we are encouraged to subscribe to an ideal mode of living, one that involves working hard in order to one day own a home. The development and persistence of this shared mentality has resulted in the classification of the Queenslander housing type as a structure symbolic of ideal living, despite home ownership being an unattainable goal for many. Particularly pertinent in this time of widespread development in suburbs known for their historical Queenslander homes and student share houses, Home 2 will investigate how these spaces reflect and inform the way we live, critiquing the notion of ideal living. The exhibition will feature the work of four emerging, Brisbane-based artists, each of whom will respond to a space typically found within, or in close proximity to a Queenslander, by creating an artwork that engages with, and questions the significance of, that particular space.
