Jacques van der Merwe: The morphology of transience

Deadline:

28 March
-
May 17
Logan Art Gallery

We are delighted to announce Jacques’s upcoming solo exhibition at the Logan Art Gallery, showcasing the culmination of his four-year research conducted at the Queensland College of Art and Design (QCAD), Griffith University. As a Doctor of Visual Arts candidate (DVA), Jacques has dedicated his studies to exploring the visual representation of memory, focusing on the interplay between materiality and the passage of time. This exhibition features his innovative use of mediums such as wax, plaster, metal, and clay, employing sculpting methodologies to transform forms and delve into the imprint as a metaphor for memory.

The morphology of transience is a sculpture project with large, human-like forms displayed in glass cases. Each sculpture slowly changes over time, mirroring how memories transform. Jacques began exploring this theme of shifting and evolving memories after his family moved from South Africa to Australia.
