The Renshaws presents Edge Condition, an exhibition by Australian artist Jamie North, whose sculptural practice explores the dynamic interplay between the industrial and the organic.
North’s works juxtapose industrial materials with plant life, challenging conventional ideas of order and control in art and nature. His sculptures often resemble wild, lithophytic organisms, reflecting nature’s resilience and its capacity to push through concrete, reclaim spaces and thrive in unexpected environments.
For North, the relationship between industry and flora extends beyond aesthetics, presenting a philosophical exploration of contradiction, growth and the coexistence of natural and constructed worlds.
North has exhibited widely, including at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Victoria and the 20th Biennale of Sydney. He is also known for his large-scale public artworks internationally.
