Jeremy Hynes Award: Clark Beaumont

The IMA is pleased to present work by the Brisbane-based duo Clark Beaumont in The Green Room. Clark Beaumont will be showing their recent work, The Descent (2015), which has never been presented in their home city of Brisbane. This is the first of three presentations by artists who have been shortlisted for the 2015 Jeremy Hynes Award, which is given biannually by the IMA to an emerging experimental Queensland artist in honour of the late Jeremy Hynes. This year, the shortlisted artists are Clark Beaumont, Catherine or Kate, and Liam O’Brien. Each of these artists will present and existing work in The Green Room.

Brisbane-based Clark Beaumont is a collaborative practice of Nicole Beaumont and Sarah Clark. Through both live and mediated performance works they investigate ideas and constructs around identity, female subjectivity, intimacy and interpersonal relationships. Clark Beaumont have exhibited nationally and internationally, in 2013, the collaboration exhibited work in Kaldor Public Art Project’s 13 Rooms, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Klaus Biesenbach. In 2014, they held their first solo exhibition at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, were selected as the Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship recipient. Recently, they have presented live performances at the IMA, Brisbane, the Australian Experimental Art Foundation Adelaide, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne, and Queensland University of Technology Art Museum as part of Performance Now, curated by Roselee Goldberg. In 2015, the duo participated in the Marina Abramovic Residency Program and exhibited in ‘GOMA Q: Queensland Contemporary Art’ at The Gallery of Modern Art.
