Webb Gallery: The Shadow’s Edge
The Shadow’s Edge is the outcome of an extended collaboration with generous participants/patients in institutional and community palliative care. The exhibition seeks to privilege the lived experiences of each participant/patient in distinctly aesthetic and affective terms.
Understood through the agency of photography—where death and loss are simultaneously condition and subject—the artworks attempt to elucidate the quotidian routines, rhythms and rituals of medicalised life at the liminal brink.

Twilight is an exhibition revealing visual and narrative glimpses
surrounding end-of-life choices in the context of voluntary assisted-
dying. It attempts to give voice to participants who have or continue to endure significant illness and seek to die peacefully on their own terms.

The series makes visible the tacitly understood yet often-unseen challenges, complexities and collateral consequences that have persisted from an absence of voluntary-assisted dying laws in Queensland – only recently legislated in 2021 and available to eligible participants from January 2023. Illuminated through a constellation of backlit portraits, still-life’s, documented spaces and text panels, the artworks function as a creative commemoration of agency and meditation on mortality.
