John Elliott: FACT or FABLE

Deadline:

4 April
-
April 14
Maud Street Photo Gallery

An unusual exhibition – a display featuring John Elliott’s visual journals, (read scrapbooks), and photography, presents a sight unprecedented.

Elliott, a self-professed visual enthusiast, has harbored an insatiable appetite for images throughout his life.

Years ago, his accumulation of books, magazines, photographs, and brochures inundated his life and in response, John began curating only the material that truly captivated him, diligently cutting out and sticking them into Spirax 595A, A4 Notebooks, each containing 240 pages.

Approaching a count of 600, John’s collection continues to expand…

John Elliott’s professional photographic career has primarily centered around capturing portraits of music legends, i.e. Slim Dusty, Keith Urban, Goanna, and many others, and a selection of his finest images from this repertoire will also be on show and available for purchase.

This exhibition features material from Elliott’s private collection. The images inspire, motivate, and inform his photography and life.

“I am a self-confessed visual glutton and have always had an insatiable appetite for images.

Many years ago my collection of books, magazines, photographs, and brochures swamped my life, so I started to keep only the stuff that really excited me, and I religiously stuck them into Spirax 595A, A4 Notebooks, 240 pages in each one.

My collection is fast approaching 600 of them.”
