Deadline:

-
10 August
Grey Street Gallery, Queensland College of Art and Design

This Intimate Life explores through Brito’s queer lens, the everyday relationships between men. Found vintage photographs and private moments are reimagined in a contemporary context using oil on canvas or pulped linen and cotton. The resulting surfaces are dynamic spaces where rich textures and vibrant patterns interact to form abstracted works, creating charged yet poignant studies of these bonds.

Brito invites viewers to engage with his work’s materiality and iconography to re-experience these fleeting relationships and relive moments of joy, pain, shame, and yearning, from an era where societal norms and expectations suppressed their right to live openly alongside everyday society.
