KUNSTBUNKER_01 [JANUS]

Deadline:

Kunstbunker ARI

KUNSTBUNKER, a new Brisbane-based artist-run initiative, is opening with a bang, and that bang is called KUNSTBUNKER_01 [JANUS].

At our brand-spanking new basement space in Ashgrove, we have invited the Greek god Janus (god of new beginnings) and will be adopting their frame of mind for our first exhibition, which will explore concepts of ‘the new’, the future, and the zeitgeist of Brisbane, right now.

Two emerging Brisbane-artists – Jordan Azcune and Holly Bates – will interpret this theme through a mixture of sculpture and installation that responds to our unique (and NEW) space.

JORDAN AZCUNE is an Australian visual artist currently completing his Honours in Fine Arts (Visual Arts) at Queensland University of Technology. While his work focuses on parody and pastiche, Azcune employs humour to communicate larger understandings of Western visual histories from an Australian perspective. Earnest & Son, an ongoing collaboration with Liam Marsden, explores ideas on mastership, masculinity and legitimacy. Combining (complicating) thoughts through material experiments, this visual practice appropriates personal fixations by investigating larger cultures. Azcune’s solo work has been included recently in Brisbane based ARI Cut Thumb as well with group shows in QUT’S Block, GoMA and Redland Art Gallery (Cleveland). To see more, visit jordanazcune.com

HOLLY BATES is a recent QUT Visual Arts (Honours) Graduate, who practices independently, and as one half of Parallel Park, a collaboration with artist Tayla Haggarty. Her personal practice is centred on challenging current societal views of female sexuality as viewed through a male-dominated culture through work that spans painting, installation, performance and video art. Holly has been exhibited at QUT’s The Block, The Hold, Metro Arts and various artist-run initiatives around Brisbane. To see some of Holly’s work visit http://www.hollybates.com

Address of event will be posted the day before the event via Facebook.
