The Lagos Artists-in-Residence Programs offer international residency opportunities in Berlin, Germany; Oaxaca, Mexico; and Mexico City, Mexico. The programs are designed for visual artists, curators, writers and cultural agents with emerging or established practices, with a focus on artistic development, intercultural dialogue, collaboration and professional networks.
Residents receive professional and curatorial support, international visibility through Lagos digital platforms, access to local and international networks, artistically designed workspaces and opportunities to participate in talks, professional visits and other activities connected to the contemporary art scene.
Applicants are required to submit an updated portfolio and artistic CV, proposed project description, motivation letter and social media details.
Mexico City:
Based in Anáhuac, Mexico City. Open to artists and curators working across visual, sound, digital and performance practices. The program has two modalities: International and Global South, with the latter open to artists from Mexico, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Duration is 1–3 months, with variable monthly costs.
Berlin:
Based in Wedding, Berlin. The program prioritises artistic process, conceptual development and research, alongside the relationship between living and working in Berlin. Residents receive curatorial support from Lagos director Luis Carrera-Maul. Duration is 1–3 months, at €3,000 per month.
Oaxaca:
Based in San Pablo Etla, Oaxaca. The program focuses on the relationship between contemporary art and traditional Oaxacan knowledge. Artists can undertake individual or collaborative residencies with local artisans, with curatorial support. Duration is 1–3 months, with variable monthly costs.
Artists who are or have been residents in a Lagos program or location are eligible to join lagos I Platform, which can provide opportunities for digital gallery presentation, collective exhibitions and participation in international art fairs.
