Larnaca Biennale 2027 is inviting artists from around the world to submit work for its fifth edition, responding to the theme Metatopies: Geographies in Motion.
Curated by art historian Niki Papaspirou and visual artist and art historian Marios Fournaris, the theme considers place not as a fixed point on a map, but as a constantly changing network of relationships, movements, traces and experiences.
The curators explore ideas of shifting through geological, anthropological, social, political and historical conditions, including the movement of people and populations, changing territories and boundaries, mobility and immobility, infrastructure, memory, trauma and ecological change.
The exhibition proposes an alternative form of cartography in which external geographies intersect with the internal geographies of the body, desire and belonging. It also considers contemporary artistic research through concepts such as dérive and détournement, using movement and the experience of space as ways of reconsidering reality and collective imagination.
