Deadline:

July 24
QUT Art Museum

Join a public forum with influential First Nations artists and thinkers whose practices challenge, unsettle and reimagine the creative landscape, presented as part of the exhibition Leah King-Smith: rhythm wRites.

The forum brings together leading First Nations artists, researchers and cultural practitioners in a series of conversations exploring image-making, memory, sovereignty, cultural authority and self-determination within contemporary art and research contexts.

Program highlights include:

• Dr Leah King-Smith and Associate Professor Dr Bianca Beetson discussing how images shape, distort and reclaim understandings of Indigenous lives and histories.

• Nici Cumpston, Robert Andrew and Celise Gibson exploring sovereignty through creative practice and the role of lived experience within contemporary art and research.

• Spoken word performances by exhibition collaborator and acclaimed First Nations practitioner Ellen van Neerven and Maria van Neerven.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. The forum can be attended in person or online via Zoom. Registration is required for online attendance.
